Taiwan Travels: Day 9

Today was exhausting. We didn’t even teach that long either, but taking care of a number of excited energetic kids takes a lot of work. I went into our first day of teaching without really knowing what to expect. It was a good experience though, and the principal and our teacher aids were really supportive. I woke up today, took a quick shower, ate breakfast, and then immediately got ready for our opening performance, which I think turned out pretty darn good for the time that we had:

Pokemon Theme Parody (Video)- 0:00-6:45
Ting Mama De Hua Variation- 8:40-13:00
Call Me Maybe- 13:25-16:30
Somebody to Love- 17:03-18:56
Cupid Shuffle/Cotton Eye Joe/Cha-Cha Slide- 19:35-24:17
Flute/Beatbox- 24:56-27:20
I Want It That Way- 28:00-31:30
Bye Bye Bye- 32:20-End

Seeing the students here for the first time was so much fun… it turns out Jocelyn and I only have six kids, two 2nd graders and four 1st graders. THEY ARE SO CUTE. Hahaha but also extremely shy, to the point where I ask them a question and they just turn away and don’t respond. I try not to take it personally =P Having the younger kids, we had to start with the alphabet and other basics, which is good in a way, but bad in that we’re going to have to rethink all of our lesson plans to match their pace. As I expected, some of the kids were really quiet and good, some of them very outspoken. After a long lunch break we brought all the kids together to play some icebreaker games, which was fun but stressful and energy-draining. Don’t underestimate the energy levels of 20+ elementary school kids!!

Afterwards we recuperated in the office and planned for tomorrow. I still have a fair bit of work to do but at least the opening ceremony is out of the way. I can’t believe we pulled it off. Now I actually have a bit of time to catch up on blogging. But the kids, I can’t wait to see them again!!

Breakfast today, again reminiscent of a McChicken….
